What is the maximum amount of VA burial benefits that are available?
If the veteran was entitled to a VA pension, at the time of death, or if death occurred at a VA facility, a VA contracted nursing home, or a state veterans nursing home they would be eligible for the $300 burial allowance.
All veterans can receive a Headstone and Marker or a Medallion in lieu of a headstone or marker, a flag and a Presidential Memorial Certificate.
If the veteran died of a service connected condition, the maximum amount is $2,000.00.
If the veteran was in receipt of any other kind of monetary benefit, the maximum benefit is $300.00 for burial and $300.00 for plot.
If the veteran was not one of the above, there is no burial benefit.
The burial benefit is a reimbursement benefit i.e. you must show you personally paid out of pocket for expenses related to the burial. The form is 21-530.
