How do veterans qualify to get medical care at a VA hospital?

A veteran wants must complete and submit form 10-10EZ, with a copy of the military discharge papers to the local VA hospital admissions department.  Subsequently, they will set an appointment.    If the veteran is receiving NSC pension plus A & A or housebound benefits, the veteran receives meds, medical equipment, incontinence supplies, glasses, hearing aids, etc. free without going to the hospital. Does the veteran need a divorce or is a legal separation sufficient to obtain veterans benefits?

A vet is married, although separated, and do not contribute to each other’s expenses.  In the case of ANY separation where the veteran and spouse do not contribute to each financially and do not file a joint tax return, the veteran can file as a single veteran.  Complete the marital information, but state filing as a single veteran, as separated since………. and that neither he, nor his estranged spouse, contribute financially to the support of each other, nor do they file a joint tax return.  Consequently, her assets, income, and UME is not countable.  Also, she forfeits all rights to future…

What would be the benefit amount a widow would receive from Aid and Attendance?

A widow receives a VA survival disability check and has other limited income. The widow is residing at an ALF.  In the case of a surviving spouse's DIC claim, medical expenses are not relevant at all. How does the VA treat payments made by children to Veteran?

Nothing paid by anyone other than the claimant (and claimant’s dependents declared on the application) is considered UME on the medical expense report, so these expenses would not be declarable.

What are VA priority 4 benefits?

Veterans Priority 4 benefits are pension plus A & A; housebound ; and catastrophically disabled. Benefits include free medications (if not reimbursed by the NSC pension), durable medical equipment, incontinence supplies, diabetic testing supplies, oxygen, eye glasses, hearing aids and batteries, and VA hospital/doctor services. However, dental is not included. A veteran called, stating person X helped the veteran with his pension application. However, it is all messed (changed language) up. We need to "fix" the application. Person X is not accredited. Does a veteran have to die before the divorced spouse can collect A&A?

 A divorced spouse of a veteran is not eligible for veterans benefits.  The spouse must be living with and married to the veteran at all times, unless a separation is military, medical, or fault of the veteran (i.e. abuse or abandonment). However, if a widowed spouse of a deceased veteran  (who died SC or who was rated 100% for ten years prior to death or who was a POW rated 100% for one year prior to death) remarries and divorces or outlives the second spouse, she can go back on the first deceased veteran.
