PBS Living Old
The PBS Frontline film " Living Old,"
a look at the challenges facing America's growing elderly population.
Those over the age of 85 now comprise the fastest growing segment of the
U.S. population, creating a much higher need for medical care and
straining America's health care system.
With Nursing Homes, averaging $9,000 per month, $108,000 per year, not including medications etc., and the average length of stay in the nursing home, approximately 3.5 years, the total cost is over $378,000. Most people cannot afford to keep a loved one in a nursing home, without the help of government assistance, Medicaid.
How are we going to pay for this? What is your quality of life, if you have dementia, etc?
