83 industries in which women are underrepresented in the federal contracting marketplace

"Despite their growth and the fact that women lead some of the strongest and most innovative companies, women-owned firms continue to be underrepresented in the federal contracting marketplace," according to SBA Administrator Karen Mills, recently quoted on GovernmentExecutive.com. On Monday, Oct. 4, the SBA filed a final rule creating a long-awaited procurement program, which focuses on 83 industries in which women are underrepresented in the federal contracting marketplace. Supreme Court to Hear Anna Nicole Smith Estate Claim to Late Husband’s Fortune

As reported in the ABA Journal the U.S. Supreme Court has agreed to hear an appeal by the heirs of Anna Nicole Smith in a battle over her late husband's fortune. The 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled in March that Smith's heirs were not entitled to the millions of dollars she sought from J. Howard Marshall's estate after her year-long marriage to the elderly billionaire ended with his death. Marshall did not include Smith in his will, but she had claimed he was improperly influenced by his son, Pierce Marshall, who interfered with the elder Marshall's estate plans….

The House Veterans’ Affairs Committee passed various bills.

It is unlikely, either the House and/or Senate will complete the passed House Committee bills, leaving everything to a post-election legislative session.
