A “Village” in the world of the aging is an organized network of volunteers dedicated to doing what is needed for seniors to stay in their homes. For an annual fee, these communities help seniors manage household tasks they can no longer handle and arrange transportation when they can no longer drive. According to a segment on NPR, there are already 50 of these groups around the country, with 100 more in the works. The Village. The small staff for villages provides referrals for all types of needed assistance. Seniors are often reluctant to ask for help, so training them to speak up and reach out is another necessary service provided by village volunteers.
